Mark Wood: MetLife share our view that were we to be designing life insurance afresh today, the services offered by Everest Funeral Concierge would be a fundamental part of the product. From launch, MetLife's entire Group Life portfolio will benefit from the Everest Funeral Concierge services.
In preparation for entry into the UK market, we have completed extensive quantitative and qualitative research. None of us are ever fully prepared for the death of a close relative. We are invariably unfamiliar with all the various arrangements, unclear how the deceased had wished their death to be marked, and often in no frame of mind to be negotiating with a funeral director. Everest Funeral Concierge supports beneficiaries with all of this, holding their hand at every step.

Dominic Grinstead: We have announced a new partnership with Everest Funeral Concierge. This is an exclusive arrangement which will enable MetLife to provide unique funeral support services to more than 1.4 million UK employees, through our Group Life product offering.
This groundbreaking partnership shows how we are enhancing our group life proposition. Since the pandemic, our research has shown how important and valued benefits have become to employees and that they want these to support their families too.
Through our partnership, we can support the families of our group life customers in the event of an employee’s death, enabling employers to offer practical and emotional assistance when it is most needed.
By taking care of the funeral planning, Everest Funeral Concierge allows families more time to grieve.

What is Everest Funeral Concierge?
Mark Wood: In the US, Everest provides a funeral concierge service to 25 million policyholders. We are now bringing these benefits to the UK Group Life market, partnering exclusively with MetLife.
The Everest Funeral Concierge service is divided into two parts which we describe as 'pre-need' and 'at need'.
Traditionally when a claim is made, a life insurance policy simply provides a payment. With Everest, the insured individual benefits from:
We call these the 'pre-need' benefits.
When a claim is made, Everest supports the beneficiaries with 24/7 expert advisors, who assist with the fulfilment of the deceased's wishes and taking care of the funeral planning at every step.
Everest's PriceFinder tool compares the costs of different funeral providers and services. The Everest Funeral Concierge supports the beneficiaries by negotiating arrangements and assisting with many other practical issues. As Dominic has said, this allows the family more time to grieve.

The pandemic served as a timely reminder for many of us of our own mortality - to start opening up those conversations around death and ensuring individuals feel informed, involved, and enabled to shape their own end of life plans.

When I think of personal experiences of loss, I believe this will be especially valuable for families at times of bereavement as they face difficult emotional decisions which can often be compounded by challenging financial circumstances.
