High value protection is reaching new heights. Here's what advisers need to know, says Aviva's Ben Whatling
marketing communication
What are high value and protection advisers telling you they need from providers in this market?
Advisers are clear in telling us that they value operational certainty. In complex cases, what matters most is efficient and transparent underwriting, confidence in how policies are put together, and clear escalation routes when something falls outside the usual processes.
Advisers also value context, guidance and reassurance. It is about knowing the insurer can help navigate more complex scenarios smoothly, without adding unnecessary friction.

Three Minutes With
Estate planning has become much more immediate and practical. Rising Inheritance Tax exposure, complex family situations, and the need for liquidity at emotionally difficult times are bringing these conversations to the forefront.
At the same time, the scale of intergenerational wealth transfer means clients want greater certainty. They want to have confidence that funds will be available when needed, so liabilities can be settled smoothly, and families avoid rushed decisions.
Against an evolving tax landscape, advisers are looking for comprehensive, joined-up solutions, delivered with a level of service that helps to simplify things. Ultimately, it’s about matching the higher expectations of clients with increasingly complex needs.
What’s driving the renewed urgency for high value protection right now?
We’ve brought together the expertise of Aviva and Aviva Protection UK to create a stronger proposition for high net worth clients. Our solution is designed to help advisers bring more clarity to complex planning situations and focus on the things that really matter, such as understanding costs, and knowing how and when proceeds are paid. This is especially important where policies are written in trust, helping keep proceeds outside the estate and reducing delays like probate.
That’s why our High Value proposition has been designed around real adviser needs, offering a broader range of solutions and features, including Joint Life Second Event term cover and inheritance-focused flexibility.
In a landscape where some tax measures are set while others are still being reviewed or clarified, our aim is to provide even more comprehensive solutions that help advisers manage known liabilities, whilst keeping flexibility in other parts of the plan.
How does Aviva’s High Value solution fit this moment – and what problem is it built to solve?
For professional clients only. Capital at risk
What’s changed – and how do your “three pillars – proposition, service, expertise” – show up in the real adviser experience?
Our three pillars are all about delivering a strong high value proposition, higher standards of service, and our highest levels of expertise.
On service, we’ve brought specialist capability together and created clearer pathways for complex cases, including a Premier service tier designed specifically for ultra-high-value needs. Advisers benefit from named case ownership, direct access to experienced underwriters, faster assessments, and more coordinated support across underwriting, pricing and relationship teams. As for the proposition, we’ve closed gaps in inheritance tax-driven protection planning and created a more holistic set of solutions to enable us to meet the needs of clients in this growing segment.
And on expertise, advisers have access to specialists who understand complex planning needs, as well as guidance, information and a range of calculators on our new High Value hub.
The end result is simple: advisers don’t have to manage the complexity themselves; we take it on through end-to-end case handling. That gives them confidence that even the most complex cases are being handled in the right way.
And that’s how we - together with the advisers we support - are reaching new heights for high value individual protection clients.
